Global Health Film is delighted to announce that the £10,000 Planetary Health Film Prize will be supported through a new two-year partnership with the Planetary Health Alliance.
This annual prize is awarded to a film that highlights planetary health - an emerging interdisciplinary field that focuses on the human health impacts of humanity’s vast and accelerating transformation of Earth’s natural systems.
Gerri McHugh, Director of Global Health Film, said ‘We are indebted to the Planetary Health Alliance for their most generous support of this award which will be used to fund a planetary health film advocacy, education or other impact initiative. The prize shortlist is drawn from within the annual Global Health Film Festival Programme; submissions for the 2018 Global Health Film Festival will open mid-May and we will be actively seeking material within the scope of this prize. A winning film could highlight the human dimensions of climate change, global scale pollution, biodiversity loss, land use change, water scarcity, land degradation, environmental displacement and migration or a combination of these. The prize will be awarded at the Global Health Film Festival which this year takes place on 07-08 December at the Barbican, London.’
Dr Sam Myers, Director of the Planetary Health Alliance said ‘We are pleased to have this opportunity to partner with the Global Health Film Festival to celebrate the immensely important role of film in bringing the issues of our time in front of the general public. Change begins with awareness, and awareness begins with story-telling. Nothing is more important than the stories we tell.’
