Neighbors (2019)
Directed by Tomislav Žaja, 74 mins
Neighbors is an observational documentary about people with mental illness rebuilding their lives in the community after decades of sheltered institutional life.
The director of a psychiatric unit in the Croatian city of Osijek takes the decision to close his institution and have his patients reintegrated to the community.
When we first meet these patients, they introduce themselves with their diagnoses rather than their names; as the film progresses, their individual personalities emerge as they integrate in their new neighbourhoods.
